retraining

When will my child return to primary school?

The Rainbow School sees itself as so-called transit school and strives - if the language development of the children allows it - as a matter of principle retraining as early as possible their students to regular elementary school.

The time of the retraining takes place on school term or to end of school year instead of. Aftercare can only be offered at the end of the school year.

A flexible transition to the regular school system is possible thanks to the cross-year teaching. A good time to switch to primary school is when you have completed the reading and writing course.

Who decides on retraining?

§ 17 AO-SF Annual review, change of funding location or course of study

( 1 )  The class conference checks, if necessary, at least once a year, whether the identified special educational needs and the specified focus of support continue to exist, and whether the visit to another support location is recommendedis brought.

Parents will be given advice on this at the Parents’ Day

With their signature, the parents give their consent to further support in the rainbow school. Likewise, the parents have the opportunity to express a different schooling preference.

§ 16 AO-SF Termination of special educational support, change of support focus

(1) If, in the opinion of the class conference, a pupil's special educational support is no longer necessary, the school will inform the parents and then the responsible school supervisory authority

Every child is given back school to the local elementary school individually considering of the following criteria recommended

   a) Language competency criteria

   b) Child environment analysis

   c) Learning and performance behavior

   d) Social-emotional condition

   e) General conditions of the elementary school

   f) Accompanying resource (the support of the rainbow school is systemically oriented and offers help for the child, for the primary school and for the legal guardians).

process of retraining

As soon as the retraining has been discussed with the parents,

  • a 3-day “trial internship” takes place in the elementary school (see annual schedule).
  • The internship can be extended or carried out at a later date on the basis of individual prerequisites and/or systemic framework conditions after consultation with the school management.
  • A final exchange between the elementary school and rainbow school as well as the parents confirms the recommendation to return to school or leads to the pupil remaining in the rainbow school for the time being.
  • After the internship, the internship students continue their schooling at the Rainbow School and switch to the primary school at the next point in time (half term or end of the school year).

Important Cooperation partners are the colleagues from the elementary schools. After the taster internship, the parents are closely involved in considering whether the child can achieve the goals of primary school in the future without special educational support.

As part of the follow-up concept, children who are being sent back to primary school but still have a low need for special educational support are accompanied by a teacher from the Rainbow School for six months (follow-up care). This accompaniment can only be offered at the beginning of the school year. It basically serves to ensure the success of the retraining and is designed for systemic advice. The focus of the counseling is the child, the elementary school colleague and also the parents. At the end of the taster internship, a recommendation for further schooling based on the observations is sent to the school authority. The school authority decides on this application.
